We have the fist project approved in the PRODEP call of 2016.

Goal: Characterise of the geochemistry of Fe in several different mineralogical fractions on microbial mats, sediments and soils of the hypersaline environment of Mormona Lagoon.

Second field trip to Figueroa Lagoon in Baja California, Mexico.

On this trip were collected three cores of hypersaline microbial mats and the subjacent sediments which was sectioned every 5 mm. The cores were obtained on different sites on the north part of the lagoon, where the mat's are more abundant. Also, was collected superficial soils samples on several different sites both inside and outside of the hypersaline system, in the order to have a comparative point of view. Back in the laboratory, the samples were frozen at -20 ºC and while be processed shortly. Down some pictures of the field trip.
